LimbAxis is developing a patent-pending range of rehabilitation technology designed specifically around the strength and conditioning needs of people with limb loss and limb difference.
The aim is to enable structured, progressive residual limb strengthening across rehabilitation, prosthetic preparation and long-term physical conditioning.
Most resistance equipment is designed around an intact limb.
Following limb loss, this can create practical challenges when trying to progressively strengthen the muscles associated with the residual limb using conventional gym and rehabilitation equipment.
LimbAxis approaches the challenge differently: by developing technology specifically for the person using it rather than relying solely on adaptations to equipment designed for someone else.
LimbAxis is being developed to support progressive resistance training across different stages of the limb-loss journey.
From rehabilitation and preparation for prosthetic use through to established prosthetic users, recreational exercise and higher-level strength and conditioning, the technology is intended to provide a platform that can remain relevant as an individual's needs change.
The focus is not on replacing prosthetic technology, but on addressing the strength and conditioning that surrounds it.
Limb loss is not a single rehabilitation challenge. Different levels of upper and lower-limb loss create different requirements.
The Motion Series is therefore being developed as a family of four applications.
Together, the Motion Series is intended to create a broader platform for residual limb strengthening across upper and lower-limb rehabilitation and conditioning.
Strength requirements do not stop when rehabilitation ends or a prosthesis is fitted.
LimbAxis is being developed with a wider journey in mind - supporting the progression from rehabilitation and prosthetic readiness towards independent exercise and long-term strength and conditioning.
Potential environments include rehabilitation settings, supported exercise and, as development progresses, home and gym-based conditioning.
LimbAxis remains in development.
Prototype work and early evaluation are being used to refine the technology and inform the next stage of development, with further structured testing intended to build the evidence required for future clinical and commercial decisions.
Intellectual property surrounding LimbAxis is patent pending, with the patent application submitted and managed by Bryers Intellectual Property Ltd.
Further technical information is available to appropriate clinical, research and industry partners as LimbAxis progresses through development.
